it starts to power up then it slows down and stops. i think its a diode of one of those other parts that shorted out and i need to know how to find out which one is broke and how to replace it.

Get an electrical circuit teardown of your model and use a Multimeter to test the components. I would check the ones that looked burned and/or corroded first.
