Why is my sensor always on?

Hi guys, for some reason my iPhone 5S's ambient light sensor glows red when my iPhone screen is off. It stops glowing when the screen is on. It's the light right next to the speaker on the front screen. This started happening after I dropped my phone in water.

Is there any way to turn this sensor off and if not, is it dangerous to remove the sensor from the phone? It's draining my battery life pretty fast. Thanks!

Sounds like you have a voltage leak issue. Did you get your phone wet at some point?

Basically, a short has been created by either by corrosion or a damaged component.

Sadly, I'm sure if you removed the ambient sensor the problem would still be there. You'll need to do a deep inspection of the logic board and clean off any corrosion. Hopefully that fixes it.
