How do I check to see if my valves are damaged?

My timing belt went out. A friend said if my valves are damaged it'll be more expensive than just replacing the belt. I want check to see if they are or not so I know for sure if putting on a new timing belt will be worth it.

Nathan, to check the Valves you will have to remove the cylinder head. If the Valves got damaged then you nay also have issues with your pistons etc. If you need further information, give us the exact year and engine size of your Honda.

A cylinder leak-down test should expose bent valves without having to pull the head. Buy or borrow a leak down tester, if excessive leak down is found, listen at the throttle body, the tail pipe, and the oil filler cap to determine if the air is going past intake valve, exhaust valve, or rings.
