I have the MaBook pro 7.1 mid 2010 13'3, and would like to upgrade to 16GB of 1066MHz, is it possible to work on my EFI firmware and how i know the working version, also can i use one 8gb and 2gb together of the same 1066MHz ?

My current system specs:

Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz

Boot ROM Version: MBP71.0039.B0E

I do not think 10GB will run... model actually supports 8 GB of RAM running Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" and 16 GB of RAM running OS X 10.7.5 "Lion" or higher and the latest EFI update (which should be automagically foiund/installed after the update).

The upgrades have been in matched pairs, that is to say they like to have the same vendor and type of RAM - you can't mix speeds.

So you likely will have to upgrade both OS and RAM if you want to use more than 4GB.

I am already using OS X 10.7.5 "Lion" so does 10 gb of same speed but different vendor will work on it ? if it works on 16 gb so why not will not work on 10 gb ?

Also can i use one 8GB on one slot or i must buy two 4Gb on the two slots ?

Two 4GB modules will be needed to get to 8GB. Two 8GB modules will be needed to get to16GB. While you can mix the two to get to 12GB I don't recommend it and you really need to have a matched set when working in pairs (same vendor and specs). Also make sure your firmware is up to date. Follow this Apple TN: EFI and SMC firmware updates for Intel-based Macs.

so if i used only one 8GB, the macbook will not run ? is it safe to install the latest EFI or maybe the bios will crash ?

Re read Dan's Answer... he says a single RAM chip over 1GB will probably not work. You won't harm the EFI (bios) but the machine may not start or run poorly.
