Screen flickers then appears with a double ghost image?

This happens intermittently whether the machine is hot or not.

sometimes moving the display helps to restore the screen and remove the ghost image.

Has anyone seen this before? Is it the display unit or the motherboard?

Options

Sounds like your system got a concussion!

It sounds like the LDVS cable connection on the logic board is having issues. Did you get your system wet? There maybe some corrosion on the connector and/or ribbon cable. The other possibilities, the connector is broken or the cable is bad.

Pop the bottom cover and do a good inspection around the LDVS cable connector does it look OK? If not take a few good hi-res pictures and post them here for us to see make sure they are in focus as are closeups of the area.
