Changing Damaged battery, can this method affect data?

My iphone is dead! Itunes does not detect My iphone when i plug it onto my Mac. Does it have something to do with the battery being damaged? And by replacing it will it affect/erase my data (photos, contacts, etc) ?

Options

Disconnecting battery from iPhone, replacing battery of iPhone, or even keeping battery disconnected for long term, does not effect the data on the iPhone. All the data will still be there when the iPhone is put back together, as long as the only problem was the battery to begin with.
