Selection of SSD to replace HDD

I am considering replacing a failed HDD with a SSD in my 2008 iMac (20" EMC 2210). When following the site through to the suggested parts and browsing the HDD options, the disclaimer says that you must replace the HDD with the same brand as the original (on this model iMac).

My question is whether this disclaimer applies to a new SDD, as I see the only option for sale through iFixIt is Seagate and I have a Toshiba in my system.

Thanks in advance!

Study the guide and notes. It is possible that reusing the thermal sensor will eliminate the fan problem.

Matching the size and SATA speed of the drive is important.
