My upper LCD screen doesn't have backlight

Hi, this problem appeared yesterday. I was playing some Smash Bros. and suddenly my upper screen went black. 1 minute after that it shut down with a popping sound.

The screen is still working, I can see images if I lit it up with a flashlight, so it's just my backlight that doesn't work.

I reconnected ALL the connections inside my 3DS XL and rebooted it, but the same problem was still there.

Should I buy an entire new LCD for this or am I missing something?

Thanks for everything.

EDIT: I replaced the LCD screen for a new one and the console still has the EXACT SAME PROBLEM. I really have no idea of what could it be now.

Have you replaced the speaker ribbon cable? If you take off the back of the top case you will be able to see where the speaker ribbon cable goes through the metal tube. Many times there is a small tear in this cable that causes this problem.

I'd recommend a new LCD, since the Backlight is integrated into it and it is nearly impossible to fix a display.
