Can't boot from the old drive

Hi guys, this is more a software than hardware question and I could really use your help! I have created a total mess upgrading my Mac with an SSD. I have already set up the new installation on the SSD, and wanted to transfer some of the files from the old drive to my NAS. Here's what happened: My Mac was runnon from the new SSD with OSX Yosemite and was put into sleep mode, NOT shutdown. I've replaced the hard drives and wanted to run the old system, but since it was in sleep it wanted to restore from Yosemite and messed up my boot on the old drive. Now there's no boot partition on my old drive, and my files (hundreds of pics and vids of my babies :/) aren't accessible. Please let me know if any of you have an idea on how to revert this mistake or if this description makes any sense at all :)

Thanks!

STOP MESSING WITHE OLD DRIVE IMMEDIATELY. With a working machine and a data rescue app. you have, at this point, a high chance of recovering your valuable data (and now you know the value of keeping a separate backkup of valuable data), but if you continue to write to that drive data will be lost.

Your first mistake was putting Yosemite on that box (it's brand new OS and has "undiscovered features") Mavericks was notorious for sleep/wake from sleep problems, wouldn't surprise me to find out Yosemite is the same.

Get a 10.8 install and put that on the new drive. Then get a good data rescue app (I like Data Rescue 3) and after your box is purring (not before, do not rush to recover - as you now know haste makes waste). Put your old drive in an external case and WITH A THIRD BACKUP DRIVE recover data to it.

Good Luck,
