This an educational product sold by Elenco. It is fairly simple to build and repair. It essentially a large circuit board with capacitors, resistors, and switches.

Why is the LED not turning on?

When I turn on the power nothing seems to be happening. The LED will not turn on and the speaker does not emit ambient noise as it should.

This could spawn from two issues, either the battery is dead or you have bad solder connections. If the batter is dead you may notice that the LED refuses to turn on and no sound comes from the speaker. Just try to replace the battery and test it to see if that was the problem. If the root of the problem are bad solder connections you may notice a flickering of noise from the speaker or the certain components will not work. You may want to evaluate your solder connections, checking for incomplete solders or cold welds. Onces located, attempt to solder the connections again.
