Cricket wireless/MacBook's fan high rpm

I use a Cricket wireless USB modem and when I'm connected online the rpm and temp are real high. RPM is usually over 6200 and the temp reaches 163F, is this normal? When I quit the wireless and disconnect it from the MacBook, the temp drops along with the rpm.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

I'm guessing that this modem is powered by USB, which would make it draw power from your MacBook. USB 2.0 can provide a maximum of 5.23V, which could be enough to raise the temperature of your computer by a fair amount.

For more control and monitoring over temperature and fan speed you should take a look at CoolBook.
