Can you install 12GB of total RAM? 2 8GB + 2 2GB

I just installed 2 8GB sticks of ram in my iMac, but it has 4 slots. I just confirmed that this iMac can handle up to 32GB of ram. So my question is, can I use the original 2 2GB sticks in slots 3 and 4 - for a total of 12GB of ram. Thank you!

Yes! You can boost your system to 12GB as long as you put the modules in the correct slots! Each pair of slots is setup as a Bank 0 and a Bank 1 (left & right) you need to put matching modules in the same bank set: Upper Banks 0 & 1 or Lower Banks 0 & 1. Here's Apples TN on memory specs: iMac: Memory specifications and upgrades and this one on how: iMac: How to remove or install memory
