When you say that the radio works, I'm assuming you mean FM and AM radio stations come through just fine and you have sound everywhere. That means it's not the power, ground, 12V switch, or any of your speaker wires. There are only a few other connections that go in inside a car stereo.
Are you able to load CDs into the stereo? Is the head unit just not reading the disc? It's sounding like there is a problem with the disc reader in your stereo, since it's only the CD function that doesn't work.
Also, are you using burned CDs? Many times the CD player in my 2006 car won't recognize files on CDs that I burn from iTunes, and gives me a "bad disc" error message. If so, try using a regular CD, and see if it works.

Talk to your dealer or go to the Chevy web site, find your device, look for a support link, see if this is a common problem or covered under warranty.
