What is the purpose of the metallic foil tape?

I have already fixed several MacBooks and sometimes I could not replace the silver colored foil tape between the fan and the optical drive. What is the purpose of this foil tape? Is it important?

Thank you!

There are 5 or 6 cables passing between the fan and the optical drive to reach the logic board. The foil tape is probably applied to prevent the cables from getting loose and going over the fan and the optical drive. I think that if the cables are secured they wont easily disconnect from the logic board sockets if the MB has a sock. It could also help to maximize the fan airflow inside the bottom case. Apple engineers decided to put a tape at this location so there's a good reason for it. I bought a roll of foil tape and always replace the tape when working on a MB. That's the professional way to go...

RF shielding as the optical drives are quite noisy (RF wise)
