What is the white pad on the mainboard by the charging pad?

It is very small, and is normally white. Mine however has 3 red X's on it. I recently changed my charging port, and now the phone charges even though it never says it is charging. I assume that pad is some sort of warranty deterrent device? Just curious if anyone knows for sure.
