Cracked home button, Touch ID not working?

Hi there! I had a 5S that got ran over a couple times, destroyed the digitizer and lcd, and cracked the home button. Replaced with a new display assembly, moving the old home button over in the process. Phone boots up fine, digitizer and home button works great, but Touch ID does not function. Could it be because the sapphire is cracked? When I go to enroll a fingerprint, it immediately fails. If anyone has a functioning Touch ID with a cracked home button please let me know. Thanks!

Immediate failure of Touch ID means the system cannot establish communication with the sensor. The chip under the button is not properly initialized or was already destroyed.

Bad initialization can be fixed by resetting the device, destroyed chip... There is literally no one can save you.

Thank you! Will try to reset device and reconnect cable a couple times, otherwise I guess the chip is toast.
