Battery repair failed... why?

I followed the instructions to replace the battery on my iPhone 4 Verizon. The phone wakes up when plugged into the wall but doesn't hold a charge.

I've repeated the process several times trying to get a different result but no luck. After the first time I wore plastic gloves and wiped down the inside with hydrogen peroxide to make sure there were no finger oils getting in the way.

I successfully changed the battery on an iPhone 4S in the same go.

What could be the problem?

Could be a number of things, but most likely you're dealing with a faulty part. From my experience as a repair tech, aftermarket iPhone batteries have a rather high defective rate.

On a side not, I would not recommend using hydrogen peroxide as a cleaning agent for sensitive electronics like this. Using legitimate electronics contact cleaner is the best way to go, but most people don't have that laying around the house. Most people do have 70% isopropyl though, and that will do just find in most cases.
