LCD is not working Led#1 #2 and #3 are on.

Can i use an external monitor on the display port with an adapter (display port to vga). My problem is that LCD is not working Led#1 #2 and #3 are on. Will the external display hooked on the display port assure that my problem is the LCD screen? Thank you very much.

Possibly there are other components than just the display that could be at fault.
