Power Supply Unit defect

Hi,

I'm living in Germany but I bought the PS4 on the release in the USA. My warranty is not accepted in Europe.

When I press the startbutton the blue light blinks for a second and the PS4 turns off. Just can't start it. I guess, the Power Supply Unit is defect.

My question: Can I replace the Power Supply Unit with the old one of the PS3? Or is it just possible with a new PS4 Power Supply Unit?

Best regards,

Patrik.

No, you cannot replace it with a PS3 power supply, only a PS4 power supply is compatible.

This may or may not be a power supply. Sometimes when it comes on then goes right back off it has nothing to do with the power supply. Sometimes it is a motherboard problem. One way that you might be able to tell is to listen to see if you hear the fan come on. If it powers on and the fan spins for just a second then goes off, often times this is not a power supply problem. If it powers on for just a split second and the fan doesn't even come on then it is more likely that it is a power supply problem.

These are not hard and fast rules, but I have found them to help in some situations.

Unfortunately there is no easy way to tell for sure if it's a power supply except to try another power supply that you know is good.

I hope this helps.

Hi Steve,

thanks for your fast reply and help.

I opened the PS4 to check if the fan starts spinning when pressing the power-button. (unhappily) it doesn't start to spin. So it's more likely that it is a power supply problem?

Do you know where to get a new PSU or some other threads/sites people are writing about the same problem?

Thank you very much.

I would say that it is more likely to be the power supply, than the motherboard, but there really is no way to tell for sure without buying it and installing it. Just know that you are taking a risk by buying a new one.

The only place you can find them right now is on Ebay. They are going for about $100 each.

I hope that fixes it! Good luck.

I have also same problem for patrik..i opem my ps4 and the fan will turn..after 2 seconds the blue light turn off itself..if theres a way to fix to replace a new power supply in my ps4?? I hope you read TronicsFix..thanks

Hi JIMSON! It's extremely unlikely that your problem is caused by the power supply. It's most likely a problem with the APU or connections between the APU and motherboard.

I hope that helps.
