Can I replace a XGA screen with a WXGA screen?

My screen went out on my G4 Aluminum 17" A1107 - 1.67 GHz PowerBook. I cant seem to find a replacement screen for it because what i had was the XGA 1024 x 768 res lcd screen. Every where I look i find the WXGA 1400 x900 resolution screens and instructions on how to install it on my laptop. But I read some where that if the resolution isnt the same, the screen will not work. Is this true? Can I replace a XGA 1024 x 768 screen with a WXGA 1400 x 900 screen? If not, where can i find a XGA screen replacement?

1024x768 on a 17" ??? - that can't be

12.1" - 1024 x 768

15.2" - 1280 x 854

15.2" - 1440 x 960

17" - 1440 x 900

17" - 1680 x 1050

if i remember right, your's should be the 1440x900 - but it can be replaced with the 1680x1050

there are sellers on ebay that will do the repair/change with the hi res lcd CLICK here

well, the thing is, I am looking at my "about this mac" section and thats what its saying the resolution is. 1024x768. and i was told that you have to replace the screen with the same resolution screen or else it wont work. I am confused as well because everywhere online it says my screen should be 1400 x 900, but I dont think it is. and i dont want to buy a used replacement screen before i am sure about the compatibility. please help.

I think that the 1024x768 is the resolution of the external monitor - right? - and yes - it's a 1440x900 screen and could be replaced with the both 17" screens of the series
