Battery won't charge, won't boot with battery plugged in.

Replaced the battery in a A1342 late 09 Macbook, but the system will not boot with the battery plugged in. Without the battery installed and the system turned off, I am getting 12.58V on pins 7-9 of the battery connector. Disconnect power and connect the battery, I now get no voltage on these pins. System will not start at all with the battery connected.

When I originally received the battery, it had roughly 60% charge on it and did say that it was charging in system report, but the magsafe connector did not turn orange. The magsafe has been tested in another laptop and is working properly. Any ideas?
