My iPhone would charge but there was no sound or lightning bolt when i plugged in in apart from 1 usb but i had the usb device not recognised problem. i changed the dock assembly and now ehen i plug it in there is no response from the iPhone or the pc. i havent checked if its charging should i let my battery drain to test for charging and then report back?

you don't need to discharge it completely - only enough to see the difference

well when i plug the turned off iPhone to the pc it turns on but ill check for charge asap

I discharged it an recharged it but when it's charging there no lightning bolt in the corner or "bleep" when i plug it in

do you still have the old dock assembly ? i would put the old one back into the phone - maybe the new one is faulty!

does it only not connect or do you still get the power surge error ??

if you still have that problem - open the phone again and check it for possible fluid damages, shorted or burnt parts..

How will i know if parts have shorted?

by

if there was a fluid damage, you should see some white/greenish residue, but if it was some "colored" fluid - it could also look different (like the MacBook i bought on ebay with a blue curacao damage - everything was blue and sticky)

Before replacing the dock did you try connecting to a different PC I have had that error with a number of devices but it was caused by a faulty USB port.
