Do I need to replace the entire LCD?

Hello.

In this last year my old macbook display suddenly lost some light, and started working very dim with poor light/contrast.

Recently it started to loose all light from the bottom of the display. First it was in the entire left side, but last week I turned it on and now it passed to the right side, please see image here:

Recently I bought the latest Retina 13" version so I'm covered but I want to fix this laptop and use it for light daily tasks like web browsing.

  • Since this "shadow" traveled from side to side does it mean its a software problem?
  • Do I need the "Unibody LCD Panel"?
  • Do I need the "Unibody LVDS Display Cable"?
  • How can I make sure what is the part I need?

Looking forward for some help...

Thanks in advanced.

Saulo, that is an error with your LED backlight. A new LCD should most certainly fix this. As for what panel you have, you will need to give us the last four digits of your computers serial number. with that we can properly identify your hardware. Hope this helps, good luck.

Plug it in to an external monitor and see if the problem persists. This will tell you if the GPU is putting out a good signal.

Yes it works flawlessly with an external monitor...

I'm not really sure if it's the cable or LCD Panel inside the MacBook... Or maybe even some software incompatibility between Mavericks and old 2008 hardware.

Maybe someone more experience had seen this before and could advise me.
