WiFi only works next to router.

My iPad mini WiFi only works when it's next to the router. If I move it a couple of metres away, it goes off-line. I have tested this using other peoples routers and Wifi and it still happens. Can it be fixed?

Thanks for the guide address. Ive read it and dont think Im up to doing all that, and no, it didnt happen after a repair or accident.
