Why Windows Explorer hangs when opening or changing a folder.

Using Windows 7 Pro, when I try to open a folder or pick a folder using SaveAs I get a (Not Responding) comment and the system hangs for about 45 seconds. Once the folder is open, I can navigate to other folders in the window without the hanging.

Your HD is failing. Often this is a sign of the directory tree being corrupted. Make a backup of your files ASAP. You'll need to reformat the HD and test it to make sure it can still be used. If you have a drive that is running out of space you might just want to upgrade the HD.
