unlock Sprint iPhone 5 16 Gb

Hello dear comunity,

I'm from Europe and I made an exchange las Spring semester when I adquired a second hand Sprint Iphone 5 16 Gb (not robbed or stolen). The fact is that I wasn't able to find out how can I unlock it here in europe and it's a pitty because I changed the front panell (it was broken) and now it's like new but still locked. I think you are the only ones who can answer me or give some tips to fix it.

Thanks and congrats' for the good work on the web comunity.

There is two different locks:

1 - Locked to the carrier

2 - iCloud locked

To change the carrier you will need to contact them to unlock the phone (you should have the original owner do this) as the contract needs to be paid off before they will unlock it. In Europe the laws are different on this so you will need to read up on your options from the carriers web site there.

iCloud lock is when someone has told Apple the phone is stolen using the Find My iPhone App. For all practical sense the phone is bricked and only the original owner can unlock it. While there is a bug in the older iOS that made it appear you could unlock the phone as soon as the phone connects to iCloud it will lock up again. The newest iOS fixes that so now that is not even possible.

Thanks. Well, now I got it. So, I supose I will sweat a little to find the owner or talk Sprint Carrier. I think is locked by Carrier. Still..., if someone can bring more tips I will appreciate. Thank's Dan

Please type the instructions on how to unlock from ICloud if you asked the IPhone to find you phone. Maybe that is my problem. Though I would think reseting my phone to factory new would wipe out the ICloud lock. This is my phone, never out of my ownership. Bought from Sprint by my husband in Jan 2013. But Sprint says it is unlocked, but I can't use it on Consume Cellular sim card nor ATT sim card. I can't buy another phone.

Any thoughts would help and be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, I can't offer an answer on how to unlock a phone that is iCloud locked, are you sure its locked? The whole point is not to have a means to unlock the phone unless you are the original owner. If you have the proper documents proving you owned the phone you could visit an Apple Store to see if they can help you. So far I have not seen any means that unlocks an iCloud locked phone. Yes, there are a few people that claim to have a way none have been proven to really work (It's a scam to either steal your money or your phone to break down for its parts to then resell).

If your phone is locked to the carrier you'll need to speak with them to get it unlocked so you can switch the other carrier. Make sure your phone can be used by the other carrier some can't. The frequencies the other carrier use may not be compatible with your phone. Apple made a few different versions which look exactly alike from the outside you'll need to look up the model info to find what you have and compare it with the carrier you want to switch to frequencies if they are compatible.

Hey there,

Sprint polices are pretty simple, the device may be used for international use. As long as the account the device was on is in good standing or paid off. As well as it had to be in service for 3 months before sprint will give you the unlock code so it can be used for international use.

This answer is not true for me. I was with Sprint 19 years, paid up, no contract for 3 years & bills pd by ACH. But my IPhone 5 is still not unlocked. I want to migrate to ATT & have their sim card but iphone says it is still locked. I have reset it twice but it still does not recognize the new sim card. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@Jackie - So you spoke with Sprint and they unlocked the phone so you could switch carriers?? If they did and you don't have the phone iCloud locked you should be able to change the carrier. You still have one other issue is the phone compatible with the new carriers cellular signals. Can you give us the model number of your phone. Apple made a few different phones versions to work with the different carriers signals.
