Newly replaced Superdrive not recognized?

Just replaced my superdrive for a new UJ-875 drive, when I

turned it on and inserted a data DVD-R with some photos burned

on it the disc did not come up on the desktop. I heard the disc

spinning up but no icon. Than I checked with Toast Titanium and

the message was No drive found!

Than I opened System Profiler to check the ATA drive and it

was not there. This system does not contain any ATA device!

Hah? I am running on OSX 10.4.11 and checked with the guys I

bought the drive from it should work with it.

Is it a hardware issue or a software one?

Since it has power on and I can hear the disc spinning up, I think

it is more of a software than hardware.

Do I have to upgrade to 10.5?

Thanks.
