Won't stay connected, screen not working

This is an iPhone GSM that I purchased from ebay. At first I took it apart to find out the company I purchased the replacement screen from had sent me the CDMA screen.

--5 months later--

iPhone has been in pieces for 5 months when I finally got around to purchasing another screen. Assembly went well, using the guide. There are two problems I am having thus far, one of which I know what the issue is.

The first problem is the screen is not turning on. I believe the bend that I made on the LCD clip was not sufficient enough to stay attached the to logic board. I may be wrong. If you know of any other common issues that are a possibility, please inform me.

The second problem is that the iPhone wont stay connected. After completing the installation, I plugged it into a 120v charger to see if I had successfully completed the installation. Needless to say, I did not. Though I could not tell this by the screen working or not working, I heard the iPhone connect, then connect, then connect and so on. Not that it would matter but there was about a 5 second interval between sounds.

Any help would be great!

I had iPhone 5 with broken LCD .. after replacing the screen, the same problem happened to me (boing noise while charging every 3-5 seconds and black screen).

It appeared that I didn't connect one of the LCD's cables properly. After reattaching the cable correctly, my iPhone started working perfectly.

I'll give you some comments:

1.) There is only one screen for the iPhone 4S--not separate GSM/CDMA versions like in the iPhone 4. We'll assume that you have the right screen for your device.

2.) Knowing the history of the phone is really important for troubleshooting problems like these---no display + water damage is really different than no display after repair, or no display after drop.

You have two problems: 1-display. Go ahead and reseat your LCD connector, but I doubt this is the problem. Next, try a known good display. Next, troubleshoot backlight problem--(I would recommend sending your board out for board-level repair) LCD connector damage, local pry damage, burned backlight filters, water damaged backlight coil or backlight diode---all of these are on the differential diagnosis for no display with no history.

Boot loop: First consider battery. Try with a known good battery that measure the right 3.8V with a multimeter. If boot loop persists, look for pry damage on board, test continuity at battery connector to its test points (search for answers here related to missing/damaged battery connectors). Test for short across battery connector.

If you can't find any visible damage, and phone won't boot with a known good battery, then--if water damage, pursue cleaning/reflowing oxidation. if no water damage--assume drop damage under a big chip--not repairable.
