chime sound comes after about a min.

Hi

I am facing a problem with my macbook air 2010 13".

The problem is the chime sound comes after like a min for pressing the power button.

I have opened the back lid and i see as soon as i press the power button the fan starts spinning.

Fan stops and starts automatically 2 times when it starts spinning the 3rd time it boots with a chime sound.

Also if the mac-book air goes to sleep it dosen't wakes up. the only way to start it back is do a SMC reset.

I have updated the EFI firmware also but not gain.

Any body has any clue what could it be.

I repair macbooks, this is the 1st time i came across this kind of a problem.

Thanks in advance.

What OS are you running? Lots of wake from sleep issues with Mavericks.

You could have a failing boot drive. It's not listed in this sequence but as part of the startup sequence the drive permissions and Master Boot Directory is checked.... If it's self-correcting errors that may be why the chime is late.

I do not know if booting in verbose mode will show you where the time consuming process is... but it might.

I am using Mavericks.

But i guess after getting a chime sound or in other words after the POST is done on a mac it will search for your MBR.

The issue is before it search for drive or MBR as the post is getting delayed.

If this delay began after the change to Mavericks It could be corrupt boot ROM (supposed to be self-correcting) or maybe EFI related. I'd go to Apple Discussions and see if anyone over there has an Answer.
