My 2 year old iphone 5 keeps shutting itself off and taking pictures of the home screen.
It was fine till this afternoon. No water or simular irritants.
Any suggestions?

Did anyone replace the battery? If yes then they could have damage some components near the battery connector or sim card area.

No the battery has not been changed and trhe phone has not been dropped or even serviced in any way, The battery life is as good as it ever was, no changes in that respect.
Try to recalibrate the home button. Has worked for me for a while although problem seems to come back full force again..

Here is a better description of what the phone is doing.
If you power it down, at some point it goes back to the "slide to unlock" screen. it will go black then the screen will light back up to the slide to power off screen. It will shut down repeatedly when you are just watching it, no input needed. Sometime when you touch the home button it takes a picture of the screen, sometimes not. It just clicks and goes to either the power off or the slide to unlock screen. It started doing this yesterday afternoon with nothing to upset it at all.
It has come on and off at least 10 times while i was typing this.
No drops, no damage, no water. It is in an Otterbox i have removed it with no changes in the behavior. it is unusable at this point.
Anybody have a clue? I don't.

Did you ever find an answer? The Apple Store told me it was the power button but recently my sounds have changed too. It could be a virus. I've been dealing with it for like three weeks. Some days are good and others bad
