What's the cause of the SATA Cable Problem?

This seems to be a common problem with the Macbook. When you turn on the system, it seems fine until it suddenly freezes. Upon rebooting, you are introduced with the flashing question mark folder. When I had this problem, it was because of the SATA Cable being damaged. What seems to be the real cause of the damaging SATA cable and what could you do to prevent this ??

There is nothing you did or could do here to prevent the ribbon cable failure. Apple had a bad run of the part. We suspect it is a cold solder joint issue.

Bottom line here - Bring it into an Apple Store to have it fixed for free.
