Black screen, can connect outside display.

My screen turned into black while using, suddenly, and permanently。

I connected the MacBookPro with an outside display. The display works good.

I brought the MBP to Apple center. They said there is something wrong in Logic Board (maybe a Resistor burned), the BackLight lost. Other parts of the MBP are all good, including the retina screen. They would not repair it for me , they can only change the Logic Board and charge me a lot of money.

My MBP is out of warranty。I don't want to spend so much money. So I refused to change Logic Board in Apple Center.

( Now I'm using the MBP with an outside display. )

I want to ask, is there any way to repair the Logic Board?

Thank you all!

(I've read some cases above。 seems no case like mine.)

#1 If you get an external signal, it indicates there's nothing wrong with the logic board.

#2 Apple will do a flat rate repair if you call them for $324.70 and fix any and all problems as long as there is no water damage or extreme physical damage.

  1. 3 Try moving the screen back & forth and see if you get a signal on the screen.

# 4 See if you can just have someone hook up a known good screen to the LVDS port on the logic board. Talk to a real, experienced technician to have this done. You may not have one where you are

  1. 5 were there any symptoms before it went out, like any pink hues?

Check if you can get the Retina screen working if you put the unit in sleep mode.

Most likely to do with malfunctioning Discrete Graphics Card.

I had a MacBookPro 15" Retina suffering from same problem only after 2 years of use.

Upon a power down or restart, the screen goes black. The keyboard is still responsive.

To get the screen back, it is possible to put the laptop into sleep mode. Make the unit is turn off first, then press the power button to start up. When you notice that the keyboard backlit is on, perform another short press the on/off button to put the unit into sleep mode, wait for about a minute, then press on/off or any key to bring the unit up. In most cases, this (for some reason) will activate the use of the built-in Intel Integrated graphics card.

You should be able to use the laptop for most application, limited by what performances the Intel Integration Graphics Card can offer.

In most cases, if you only put the laptop into sleep mode, the screen should come back on when awaken. However, if you put the unit into shutdown/restart mode, you will need to repeat the above process to get the screen to display.

This is only a workaround to get the screen working, it is not a fix.

As mentioned by other solution posted, the discrete graphics chip needs replacing, which can be a costly fix. However if integration graphics is all you need, this workaround may be an acceptable solution.
