Screen went black and now my computer is dead...

Hi,

This morning while I was using my Mac suddenly the screen went black and now the bugger won't start up again. Did the power button trick, alt-cmd-p&r, still nothing. A headlight over the screen; black as black.

No weird noises, never had problems before. I changed the harddisk about 2 years ago, since then she was always running fine.

So before opening, where are these LED's located to check the powersupply, videocard etc? I red about 4 of them.

Help much appreciated, Thanks!

Michiel

So only LED 4 isn't working. Will search for an adapter to install an external screen.

Fans are both working, harddisk seems to be working as well. When I start up without the RAM memory it starts beeping, so the RAM seems good as well.

Do you mean by 'chime' the Apple sound when you turn on the computer?

Thanks a lot!

Righto, so I opened up my machine and Led nr 4 isn't functioning.

It's not very clear to me what the problem now could be. A faulty LCD display chanel?

Any tips for checking that one?

Thanks!

Problem solved! It was the GPU that was dead. I baked it for 10 minutes in the oven (200 degr C) and she's back up and running. You can't imagine how happy I am!! :D
