Damaged Phone Jack cable, can I use phone jack of dock instead?

Hi!

I recently damaged the earphone jack cable of my iPod, when disassembling it to check that the battery needed replacing.

The earphone jack is currently unavailable at ifixit.

I just wondered, can I use the docking station that I own for this iPod to listen to music through the jack that's in the dock? Or do I have to replace the earphone jack anyway? I'd like to know this before ordering a new battery.
