Broken gasket from home button

When replacing the home button gasket i noticed that there's still a very thin and even square of the old gasket attached. Should the surface be completly clean (danger of scratching the surface or removing only partialy) or is it safe to glue on top?

I take it your talking about the rubber gasket if yes then just use a little heat and pick off with tweezers and yes area should be clean

I imagined that was the correct way to do it. I was just trying to avoid any possible problems during the ungluing.
