Touch ID function doesn't work after screen replacement?

Hello Everybody,

I have a problem.

I replaced a iPhone 5s screen and everything goes well like always, but this time the Touch ID doesn't work.

If i go to the settings i see that the Touch ID still has save the finger 1, but on the unlock screen it can't read any finger anymore.

I replaced it with a new one, but i seems that the iPhone 5s doens't accept the new Touch ID flex cable.

Is this impossible to replace?

What can i do ?

Thank you.

Hi

Every touch id sensor is uniquely linked to the iPhone's processor so simply replacing the touch id sensor will cause the phone to loose touch id functionality. You must use the original sensor that came with the iPhone otherwise you loose touch id forever unless if you're willing to replace the iPhone's logic board with one that is linked to a touch id sensor.

During disassembly, you must have either done damage to the touch id sensor or the sensor itself isn't properly installed. There are a number of factors that contribute to its failure. The touch id flex cable could have been accidentally pinched or damaged by lifting up the screen too high or there could have been damage done to the capacitors when removing the sensor from the screen itself. Or the captive screw was not secured in the correct orientation. Or the connector itself isnt properly seated onto the socket. A small amount of people even reported that a restore did the trick however its not very likely that will fix the problem after opening the phone up.

So to answer your questions in short, it is impossible to replace without restoring touch id functionality, you can go through the possible scenarios i listed and check your work and hope that nothing was damaged. A multimeter or voltmeter is always a great tool to have for diagnostics.

Best of luck

Ozmen, if someone fixed your phone and your touch ID is no longer working, its something they did.

by

yes they did it but they do not accept that. Finally i understand that they are weak on their job and stopper asked again. Cuz he cannot do this. im checking the solution by myself. if i have tools i can fix my phone too.

After getting my charger connector replaced, just "add a fingerprint" option is not working. It still shows previous fingerprints and workes fine to unlock

by

Ok so I just replaced my screen and digitizer right so you said someone about having the original touch cord thing lol so does that mean I need to get the cord and homebotton and all that off the screen my phone came with?

Also when replacing the screen for Touch ID try doing a network settings reset, that works for me every time I do a replacement. Make sure cable is attached when u do the reset.

If you go to tour Touch ID settings and the option to turn on is greyed out, then the phone is not recognizing the Touch ID sensor. It will still work to go to your home screen, but not for fingerprint recognition.

Good news if you still see the option to turn it on and off.

Typically this is caused while the battery was plugged in or phone turned on while replacing the screen.

So, if you hard reset the phone it will usually fix this problem. If that does not, turn the phone off, disconnect and reconnect the battery, then plug in the sensor and turn the phone on. That will fix the Touch ID unless the ribbon itself has been damaged.

If all previous steps did not work, which ribbon should I replace?

It doesn't work for me. I had to replace the screen&home button for a new aftermarket one and I forgot to remove the battery (my bad). I've tried to reset the network with no luck. I've tried to re-connect and connect the home button again (battery unplugged) and still nothing.

by

after trying a couple different things and getting no results...disconnecting the home button cable, then the battery, waiting a couple seconds, then reconnecting the battery, then the home button cable, worked for me. thanks for mentioning that!

by

What do you mean by reconnecting the battery and disconnecting the home button cable? Help me

by

Thank you @chubutta !!!! Tried restoring network settings, restoring phone, changed new backplate, nothing was working. Turned phone off, disconnected battery, held power button for 10sec., disconnected home button ribon cable, connected it back and it WORKED!!! THANK YOU!!!

I have found that 50% of the time you have to restore phone back to new for the touch ID to work

by

Yeah if there is no signs of physical damage on the connections all the way to the home button and the connectors for it that usually is the case.

Some die for no aparrant reason with no fix which is weird then most people conclude it was caused by ESD.

I only had this happen once but I always keep forgetting to especially drain residual power on 5S and higher to reduce chances of ESD risk on home button.

You can do this by unplugging the battery then holding the home button for 5-10 seconds.
