Very dark screen (but still readable)

The macbook screen stays very dark. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the normal brightness, my screen is a 2. The darkness is consistent throughout the screen and there is no flickering, whatsoever. It just stays very dark as if someone has minimized the brightness all the way down. I have tried improving the brightness, resetting etc. But no improvement. Any help is much appreciated !

Answer this question I have this problem too

More than likely an inverter issue. Inverters cause flickering when they're going out, but when they're completely dead and gone you have no power to the backlight. I would start troubleshooting the issue by replacing that. If the inverter isn't the issue then it would be the backlight built into the lcd panel. Inverter is definitely cheaper than a new panel

Thanks ! Could it also be the inverter cable ?

It very well could be, more likely the inverter than the cable. The cables are designed to withstand the torsion from being routed through the display hinge. But that goes without saying it very well could be the issue.

It makes sense to replace both when you're going this deep.

Thanks everyone. I ordered a new inverter. Will replace it over the weekend. Like I said, the display is not completely dead, Its visible enough for me to read the serial number. But that's about it...

Thanks again !
