Motherboard/camera malfunctioning, after bad repair.

Ok.. first of all - i did a bad repair on my own iphone, i was sleasy and too fast, and - it was my first time trying. But!

After the repair, i found out, that my front camera was not working, and i might have ripped out a small chip(doh). - ok, a bit annoying, but i can live without selfies.

But after 3 months, the other camera stopped working aswell! Which is a bit more annoying!

I have ofc. done the basic troubleshooting, by resetting the phone etc. All though, i haven't opened the phone yet, because of the mess i did the last time i tried. :-)

Anyone have any advices? I know the frontcamera is pretty much done for, it stopped working right after i turned on my phone, after my bad repair. But the other camera?

By resetting, do you mean that you went to settings--general--reset all settings?

This will reset the camera app. The camera app can sense a hardware defect in the front camera and will shut down and not operate either camera. You can live with this by never engaging the front camera. If you do accidentally, then a reset as described will bring back rear camera function.

Otherwise, you have to 1) reseat. 2) replace both cameras, and if not solved send out for board repair. If you can see visible pry damage on the logic board, it can most likely be fixed.

More likely board damage than both cameras failing.

Hello Peder,

I would start by trying to replace the front camera. You very easily might have tore the flex cable. So start by trying to replace this. Also this might sound crazy but perform a soft reset and then from the lock screen pull up to enter your camera. As quick as you can hit the flip button. This will sometimes kick the rear camera out of its funk however it will not fix the front camera.

Hope this helps!

if you changed the screen and all these things are happening my guess is when prying off the connectors you broke off some of the small components around the front camera connector and elsewhere. Your going to have to open the phone back up and look under magnification for missing components. If you have any experience soldering small parts its not a hard job, and the parts can be found on digikey. Use an iphone 5 schematic to identify the correct parts.
