MagSafe not charging battery or powering computer.

Hello-

(disclaimer: I'm a PC, this is my 1st "real" mac so please excuse any misspoken terms or names)

I hope somebody can offer some suggestions an get me at least in the right area. I purchased a MacBook the other night knowing that the system would not power via the MagSafe port.

The battery is fine and will hold a charge.

The power block is brand new and works fine.

There does not appear to be any physical damage to the port on the Mac.

Although I am perfectly comfortable writing code for a variety of systems (this is going to be a iPhone dev box). I have the hands and dexterity of a drunken troll so I will NOT be taking this apart.

I have tried resetting the SMC as well as the PRAM but this has not had an effect.

What are the potential physical problems that could cause these symptoms, and what are the potential costs involved for repair?

Thank you very much for your time, and please let me know if I was not clear enough about anything I will do my best to clarify.

Hi Mayer-

I took it into Apple today, they identified a magSafe problem. Thanks for the reply though.

As the power adapter isn't powering the mac i suspect the magsafe board or its connections to be at fault. Get somebody familiar with the internals of these machines to have a look at it.

Please remove the battery, if it is externally accessable, and give us the correct machine so we can proceed. I assume the "power block" is the external power adapter that plugs into the wall. How do you know it's good? Where did it come from and is it a Apple brand? While the battery is out, attach the magsafe power connector and see if the machine will boot without the battery installed. Push the button on the battery and tell us how many green lights you get. How did you get the battery charged?
