I am able to hear my friend when I am talking on speaker phone but he is unable to hear me. However we can hear each other just fine when it's not on speaker phone. Do you think my best bet is replacing the earpiece speaker on the iphone 4 verizon?

Hello James,
If you can hear your friend fine when it is not on speaker phone then it should not be your earpiece speaker. I would try replacing the dock connector as there is a mic located on it. If that does not work then I would replace the headphone jack which also has a mic on it. There is a lot of controversy of which mic has which function, some people say on speaker it uses both however I don't believe this is the case and there is a lot of unreliable information about the i4v mics so I would just start with that dock connector and go from there!

Hey I replaced the dock connector and it still does not work. Should replacing the headphone jack fix the problem then?

James, yes you need to replace the headphone jack. When you put the phone into speakerphone, you should talk into the top of the phone. The pin hole next to the jack is where the mic is located.
