Found a Broken Chip.. No Optical Drive, Wifi and Power Button

Hello, I bought a Macbook Pro 13 inch Mid 2010 from ebay, and the store claimed that the dvd drive, wifi and power button doesn't work. I already knew of the power pads so I could care less about the power button. I tried examining the board for any corrosion or signs of liquid damage but haven't found anything... btw the outer case is perfectly fine. When I removed the logic board to replace the thermal paste because Apple is terrible at applying it, a random chip fell on the table and I cant find where it belongs. Unfortunately, this was months ago and I cannot find the chip, I placed it somewhere in my tool kit.. All I remember is that it has 4 pins on each side and is about medium size (considering that everything is so small) Could this chip control these devices? Oh and I've already tested the wifi and the od with known working ones. Thanks for your help guys!

I think it more closely resembles the purple.

Ignore the blue!! The chip is not as big as the one circled in blue. These chips circled are to give you an idea of what Im talking about.

What about the chip left to the upper ram socket screw. Can you see it?

Take a look at the images on step 14 & 15 as reference here: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2009 Teardown while it's a model before yours they are very similar.

Reference designator Q2300 is a N-Channel 10 mOhm @3.2V 4.3 A (EDP) STMFS485NST1G

Reference designator Q4690 is TPS2064DGN which is a USB Switch ICs and is part of the Port Power Switch circuitry. There is no way to guess by just looking at it to know what your IC's is. To properly identify it you will have to have a part number on it or know where it is located. Hope this helps, good luck.

The missing part on your logic board is reference designator Q4590 which is a TPCP8102 P-Channel MOSFET Transistor 7.2A 20V and it is part of the SATA connector power supply.

I think that's not the chip he looks for , he's only giving that chip as a reference (size and layout).

Buco is right, those chips I circled are reference chips and also my wifi card gets warm (like you can feel it when the black cover is not on) but my mac doesn't register it and says Wi-Fi: No hardware installed

Yes, I figured that as well "To properly identify it you will have to have a part number on it or know where it is located." You can not determine which IC it is by trying a visual comparison. May be a couple of high res images, posted with the question, so we could try and see where there is a missing IC, would help

Hey there . It seems to be the Q4590, responsible for Optical Disk Drive Power Control.

So Superdrive related.

Thank you oldturkey and Buco. Do you think that it is possible that I can order only one chip and instead of soldering i can electrical tape it down? I really do not want to start soldering board level when im more used to automotive soldering. One more thing.. my macbook lists my wifi as "No Hardware Installed" But when I take off the clutch cover and feel the airport card, it is pretty warm, so that means it has power. I've tried another airport card from a working laptop, but the mac still doesnt register it.

No you can not. Unless you solder that transistor properly, it will not work. any other issue with your computer right now may or may not be related to the missing part. Unless you repair that first, anything will be a guess.

Ok, do you know where to get a couple of those? Digikey has a minimum order of 3000 and there is no way i need that many.
