What kind of battery keeps the clock powered?

After removing and inserting the main battery, the clock always needs to be reset. This wasn't an issue when the camera was new.

I disassembled the camera and found a coin cell with soldered tabs and glued in place on the top circuit board. This is the only component that looks like it may be a clock battery. It has no visible markings, as the flat side is glued to the board, but has "Z5451" silkscreened next to its solder pads. The cell itself is about 6.5 mm in diameter and 1.2 mm tall. With the main battery disconnected, I measure 2.6 V across it. With the main battery inserted, I measure 2.9 V across it, suggesting that it is either a rechargeable battery or the clock circuit is powered by the main battery when it is present. 3.0 V doesn't sound like any likely rechargeable chemistry, though.

Does anyone know what kind of battery this is? This is otherwise a very nice little camera and I want to fix it instead of replacing it.

[Note to disassemblers: the flash capacitor holds a charge for quite a while and is 100 V. Discharging it with your finger is quite the surprise! There are pads somewhere near the top right (by the shutter button) that will shock you.]

P C, you are correct. "Backup battery for date: Lithium-ion*

* Backup battery is charged from the camera body’s battery.

In fully charged condition, the date and time can be kept for one or

more days long even if the NP-200 is removed from the camera body.

(Not user-replaceable)" Now we just have to find the right battery. Amazingly enough it is not in the parts list or the service manual.

oldturkey, where did you get the parts list and service manual? Those would be nice to have on hand.

.

If it's a lithium-ion battery, it's toast if can only hold at 2.6 V after charging. If it's a non-rechargable LiMnO2 cell, it'll be a CR61x (where 1x is the height in tenths of a millimeter... I'll have to actually measure that!).

It looks like I'll have to scrape the battery off of the board and see if it has a label on the back (fingers crossed). I'll update this question when I do, but it may not be any time soon.

P C, the manual refers to it as a rechargeable battery and that it gets its charge from the main battery. I can send you what I have on this camera, just contact my be email. My address is in my profile.
