Problems connecting DELL 2713HM external to iMac

Connecting a 27" iMac & Dell 2713HM monitor together.

Hi guys,

Don't seem to be able to get any answer for this on the Apple forum

Whats the best solution for this problem?

Do I use a male to male DP cable or go down the edid programming path?

I just bought a Dell 2713HM external monitor to connect to my 27" iMac to make it easier for my music and video work.

Is there a solution for this or am I barking up the wrong tree...

regards,

Andy

Can you give us the model of your iMac. If you don't know it, give us the last four digits of your serial number which you can find in the About This Mac > More Info as well as what your Mac OS-X you are using.

Chosen Solution

Your Dell monitor has a native DisplayPort 1.2 port so you should be able to go DP to DP cable to your 27" iMac.

Have you tried looking at your display settings and move the monitor desktop position from your current iMac display (left or right of it or up and down) so your extended desktop is were you want it. Or, have you set it up as a mirrored display.

As to programing it you shouldn't need to. That was an issue with DVI connected displays. Here's a good writeup on it not that it should matter here Troubleshooting DVI and EDID Issues.

Can you explain what you see (or don't see) and what have you tried. Are you able to even get an image via the VGA connection? Have you spoken with Dell at all?

Physically left I assume from what you state here. But, what is the displays setting in the System Prefs > Display setting? You should see two display icons the iMacs and the external Dell Display.

by

display is set at

scaled

1080p

standard

60 hertz (ntsc)

OK so the display is being 'seen' by the iMac. Now what does the display show you anything at all? Blue screen? Grey screen? Black screen?

by

its showing me a picture that has a background on it.. its not mirrored

its the resolution that won't chance

its won't go to 2560 x 1440

all i get is a 1080p @ 60 hertz picture
