My tachometer isn't reading correctly on my 1999 Honda Accord V6.

When I take off fast it goes all the way past 8500 RPM'S . if the motor was really turning like that it would throw a piston through the hood. Can somebody please tell me what to do....

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

It idles at between 1000 and 1100 RPMS. No it don't surge. I think its just not calibrated right. It had a 2.3 and was upgraded to the 3.0..

From what I'm reading, the most common fault that causes this is a faulty ignition coil, like the internal resistor is shot. Though it could also be a fault in the electrical wiring its self, a sensor problem or the tachometer cluster. Have you checked those out? Also, you wouldn't happen to have a Vehicle Diagnostic Code Reader? You might be able to find the fault code of whats causing this.
