Adhesive strips doesn't stick enough

I tried opening my iPhone 3GS to get to the battery, but only the front panel comes off, instead of the entire screen (like this: http://i921.photobucket.com/albums/ad53/...). I tried using two different kinds of glue and an adhesive sticker to keep it together, but nothing is strong enough.

What will make my front panel stick properly? Or is there a way to open my phone, without using a suction cup to lift the screen?

Thanks a lot in advance!

We use a metal opening tool and simply get down to the clips instead of just pulling up that layer of glass. Suction cups kind of suck haha

I used a very thin piece of metal to get between the outermost rubber edge and the chrome edge, and then pry it open.

Thanks a lot!
