Laptop crashing and restarting over and over (and over)?

Acer Aspire 6920

Help please.

For the past 3+ weeks, my laptop will start up (Acer logo first, then Windows Operating system starts --XP, and finally my desktop is displayed). Within 1-30+ minutes, the laptop will crash--straight to black screen then it will restart the process all over again.

I've had issues with the operating system since I got the laptop (in 2009--I know it's old ;) Nothing to this extent, but always issues.

I have always been able to wipe and use my recovery disks in the past.

This time, I am unable to even use my recovery disks. Will not read the disk. The DVD/CD player seems to work ok--although since all this has started, I can not watch a few of our DVDs on the laptop. It just won't read them---even though it reads others.

I don't really want to send my laptop to Acer again ($219) if I can wipe my c drive on my own which I would prefer to do.

Some advice would be so appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Mia

Hi,

First of all check you hard drive for bad sectors. You can found a free program who can make for you a bbotable CD. You must make a full (surface) test.

- Check your memory with a memory test application. You can found them for free too.

- Check your system for overheating. There are free apps who can watch the CPU temperature.

- Check your recovery disk in another PC.

If every thing is ok, then clean carefully the laser lens of the DVD unit or use external DVD to recovery your Windows.

Regards.
