How do you replace the headphone socket?

It's a classic story.

A phone is designed for as many uses as possible - aimed at the heavy user, strapped for cash, and can deal with the hustle and bustle of the modern world.

Except it can't. I'm a runner and I use my Moto G for music and GPS. I've found the headphone socket is giving up though, and music can sound distant, garbled, broken, and poor. I wiggle the connector about and it's just not good enough. The sweet spot to make it work isn't easy to find.

I've narrowed the problem down to being a fault with the headphone socket. I know the Moto G was built to be unfriendly to the tinkering user, so how would I go about replacing the headphone socket, or at the very least, stabilising the socket?

The headphone jack is attached to the back housing and makes contact to the logic board with pins on the Motorola Moto G. The repair is relatively easy as long as you can get a hold of the part.
