Power button or the cable?

The lock button of my iphone 5 is not functioning properly, but how do you tell whether it is the button or the cable that is bad? I am thinking about buying the part but I am not sure which to get.

It's always the cable but look under the metal button to make sure the metal spacer hasent shifted

When you say button do you mean the metal button on the housing?

If so then most likely it's the cable.
