Pressing 1 through to 8 keys adds 9 e.g.:19 instead of 1

When I press the number 1 through to 8, an extra 9 is added to the entry. e.g.: 1 produces 19, 2 produces 29 etc.

The number 9 key does not work at all.

When I press the 0 (zero) key it works as expected. Every other key on the keyboard works correctly.

When I login and enter my password. Pressing any key causes the entry box to fill with characters (don't know what as is the password). I can delete all but one character (the one I wanted) and then enter another key and the same thing happens.

Did you get your system wet? If not. It sounds like your keyboard connection to your logic board is bad or the keyboard its' self is gone.

Follow this guide: MacBook Air 13" Mid 2011 Upper Case Replacement Start at step 1 to 3, jump to step 19 & 20 making sure both connections are fitted and not damaged. If you find they are OK then you'll need go back and follow the complete set of directions to pull the top case off to try to clean or replace the keyboard. Warning this is a very big job and if you can't locate a replacement keyboard you will need to replace the entire top case.
