Why did screen develop a magenta hue?

My DMC TZ5 suddenly started showing a magenta hue on the screen and on the photos taken, but when in menu the display was normal. After trying several settings the display went back to normal without any explanation. However, after sometime it started showing a magenta hue again on photo images. Photos on memory card taken before the problem started display normal, so I suspect the problem is the image sensor.

Can you comment on this? if you think the problem is the sensor, where can I buy one, and how to replace it?

Thanks for any help, suggestions, or comments you can provide!

Update

Old Turkey,

Thanks very much for your answer, especially for the confirmation of the cause and the part number of the CCD.

I have been looking for a "Panasonic Lumix TZ-5 image sensor" bur without any luck.

I have found several for the TZ3 (previous model), however. I guess I just need to keep searching!

Thanks again,

Martin

Chosen Solution

Martin Rubio, sounds like a bad CCD unit. this guide on how to get to the lens. The CCD unit has a big "G5" printed on it and requires the removal of three screws to be removed from the lens.

the part number for that is VEK0L97 and it is apparently a bit on the expensive side. I'd check on sites like ebay.com or others for a replacement. Hope this helps, good luck.
